In this Dostoevsky-esque short story, “A Shuttered Universe: A Novel in 9 Letters,” Matt weaves a tale inspired by Aquinas’ arguments against atheism. When a Christian invites his atheist friend to a Christian conference, the two end up swapping their beliefs. Through their genteel arguments explaining their new positions on religion, they open a dialogue that brings each closer to the truth.
What can we learn from the nine letters in this short story?
- Logic is vital in any discussion about Christianity
- Frank discussion that takes us out of our comfort zone helps us to better understand our beliefs in Christianity
- Modernism attempts to squelch our faith, but reason can always prevail
