How to Discern God’s Will w/ Fr. Vincent Yeager

May 17, 2021

And find your vocation!

In this episode, I chat with Fr. Vincent Yeager, a Franciscan priest, and vocations director, about how to find your vocation. We share tips and examples from our own journeys — his as a priest and mine as a married man — and we discuss:

– Whether you can choose the wrong vocation
– How to recognize signs from God
– Small “v” vocations and big “V” vocations
– What to do when you’re attracted to two different vocations
– Five keys to discernment you need to know

If you’ve been wondering about your vocation in life (or know someone who is), this is the episode for you!

While watching this ninety minute discernment video with Father Vincent the question came up several times of being married with children and still having a hidden desire form the religious life. I kept waiting for you to bring up the permanent diaconate option, but you never did. I am currently in year four of five toward the ordination as a deacon, and this has been the perfect fit for the married couple who want to grow together as God’s servants in the Church and the community in which we live. Great overall interview and discussion. Hearing the discernment experiences of others is always helpful to those who share a similar experiences.

Hi! Happy Pentecost! Blessed to have watched this interview when I finally found the time to do so. It really makes a lot of sense to love God regardless of our state of life. Took a lot of notes and even forwarded the video to share with some friends. Have been interceding for the gift of vocation, particularly in terms of discernment and commitment.

Also thought I would share that my spirituality has strong Franciscan roots (mainly through the OFMs), aside from the legacy of faith from my parents. Can relate so much with a paraphrase if not a direct quote, “The LORD puts people in our lives to guide us in a certain direction we should go…”

Wondering if Fr VInce has written a book, maybe should just search online. Have read some of Fr Scanlan. His five keys really essential Also appreciate the 5Cs. The Q&A portion also relevant as it addresses specific inquiries from all over.

Please include me in your prayers. Am a consecrated lay (OCV) perpetually professed in 2017, then with rites officiated in 2018. ‘Twas such a long journey of waiting on God to open doors and am just so grateful for His grace that sustains us all to remain faithful to Him and to our church. Can share more for His glory if there is an email address I can send my reflections to.

    PAX ET BONUM!
