Why Does Philosophy Matter?

Help spread the word by sharing this on your social media with the hashtag, #PintsWithAquinas.

“Philosophy is the systematic and critical study of fundamental questions that arise both in everyday life and through the practice of other disciplines”[1].

Or, to put it much more simply, philosophy is that thing we engage in when we think hard about stuff.

Deciding whether or not science is important will not (cannot) involve a scientific experiment, rather, it will involve “thinking hard” about what we mean by science, whether it is or is not beneficial for human societies, and the like. In other words, if you want to give a serious answer to the question, “why does science matter?” You must engage in philosophy.

  1. Hi Matt,

Love it! One variation might be to have the interlocutor reappear after being “zapped” with a Dominican habit on!!! (Or just have the 4th panel show him with the habit on after the “smoke clears”)

    Thanks for your witness!
    God Bless!

Nice comic, but credit to the Existential Comics for use of his tweet would be appropriate:

    • Thank you for this. I had seen similar memes but did not know where it came from. Will throw up a link to Existential comics now.
